The City Centre of Utrecht has many shops. The Central Station is located in the largest indoor shopping mall called "Hoog Catharijne" and therefor within walking distance. The Oudegracht Canal goes through the shopping area with it's many restaurants located at the Canal.
The city is centrally located at a junction of road, rail and waterways, making it a leading fairs-and-conference city and it is the best growing economic center both of the "the Randstad" as of the Netherlands.
Utrecht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands with an important historical center. Typical of the city include the wharfs (of the canals) and the Dom Tower, which gives the town the nickname "Domstad".
The city has three Universities, the largest is "University Utrecht". This university is also the largest in the Netherlands. Besides this, there are three major colleges (HBO), the headquarters of the Dutch Railways, the Rabobank Netherlands and the Jaarbeurs Utrecht established. Utrecht is also the seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Netherlands (see Archbishopric of Utrecht) and the Old Catholic Archbishop.
