Waste disposal in Utrecht
In Utrecht "within the canals" (the city center) the waste is collected 2 times a week. Outside the canals, this is done once a week. To get connected by the several utility companies when renting a new house (rent price excluding the utilities!) you must apply by several companies:
-Eneco (tel. 0900-0201) for gas, city-heating and electricity in Utrecht. In Amsterdam Nuon (tel. 0900-0808) is the company to connect.
-Vitens (tel. 0900-0650) is the company for water in Utrecht. In Amsterdam Waternet (tel. 0900-9394) is the company to connect. 
-TV & internet by Ziggo; (tel. 0900-1884) is the biggest company in Utrecht with several combi-deals (landline + digital tv + internet). In Amsterdam UPC (tel. 0900-1580) is the most popular company.
-Landline is taken care by KPN (tel. 0900-0244). The company offers many things like landlines, mobiles and digital tv.

Property taxes as a habitant of Utrecht
As habitant/tenant of a place, you have to pay several taxes like "afvalstoffenheffing" (garbage disposal tax) and "verontreinigingsheffing + Ingezetenenbelasting" (pollution tax + habitant tax). These taxes are not included in an including rent price.
The owner pays other taxes for the property, like OZB (property tax) and sewertax.
